There are companies who are confused where to put the money for sustainable development, the lack of information and expertise to invest in social sector, here comes the role of NGO in order to provide them better knowledge and expertise. To associate with corporate, NGO’s should increase the visibility of their work and build trust & credibility
Establishment of partnership is a challenge because of the deep seated perceptions from both sides; for Corporate, NGO’s are characterized as activists, on the other hand for NGO’s; business entities are for profit making at the cost of people & planet. These misunderstandings and other obstacles can prevent partnerships from reaching their potential.
Now both NGOs and Corporate should make concrete steps towards well designed & structured framework to realize other’s requirements, objectives in order to achieve common goal and aligning CSR in business process with sustainable growth.
Having a readiness to engage and overcome the difficulties in different work cultures is important, along with a clear understanding of the competencies and value, each party brings. Mentoring and volunteering programs are one way of building a deeper sense of connection and shared purpose.
Today NGOs need to shift from their grant-based approach to market-based approach that are service and product oriented to contribute sustainable development for the long term.
It is essential for successful partnership to establish good communication through transparency and also act as a critique who understands each other and make balance to work together. Corporate expects the NGOs to understand their values; their business value chain, social value and culture - and integrate them into the partnership. Hence a particular NGO needs to prove themselves, a right choice among large numbers of NGO’s in the country.
NGOs should have strategic mission, vision and goals to achieve and gain support of the Corporate & other stakeholders. They must have a sound organizational structure, human resources and flexibility to adapt corporate culture perceiving their voluntary character. NGOs should provide transparency & commitment in their management.
Last but not the least NGO & Corporate partnership is good for both in order to achieve the goal of sustainable development. The prospects for the future of cross-sector partnership remain very bright. But it will require a proper training & capacity building for bold leadership, effective planning and a clear focus on delivering, measuring and communicating the economic, social and environmental impacts of cross-sector partnership.
